Community & Giving Back
At Furniture Spot & Mattress Outlet, being part of the Halifax community is not just something we talk about. It is something we have lived since 2016. Every mattress and piece of furniture we sell stays in Nova Scotia. Every delivery we make is to a Halifax home, a family getting set up, or someone starting fresh. That connection to our community is the reason this store exists and the reason we show up every day.
Over the years we have had the privilege of working alongside some of the organizations doing the most important work in Halifax and across Nova Scotia. This page is our way of acknowledging those relationships and the people behind them.
Community Organizations We Work With
Nova Scotia Department of Opportunities and Social Development
We work with the Nova Scotia Department of Opportunities and Social Development, which serves clients across multiple locations throughout Halifax Regional Municipality including Gottingen Street, Bayers Road, Cole Harbour, Sackville, and surrounding communities. When individuals and families supported by this department need mattresses or furniture, we are here to help get them set up properly and affordably.
ISANS - Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia
ISANS has been one of our most meaningful community relationships. We have worked alongside ISANS to help newcomers to Halifax furnish their homes and start their new lives in Nova Scotia with dignity. A bed, a sofa, a dining table - these are not just products. For someone arriving in a new country they are the foundation of a home. We are proud to support that transition.
MOSH Housing First
MOSH Housing First works to end homelessness in Halifax by helping people find and keep stable housing. When someone moves into a new home after a period of instability, having a proper mattress and basic furniture makes a real difference. We support MOSH Housing First and the people they serve.
YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth
The YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth has been a cornerstone of the Halifax community for generations. We are proud to be connected with an organization that invests so deeply in the health and wellbeing of Halifax residents across every age group and background.
The John Howard Society of Nova Scotia
The John Howard Society of Nova Scotia supports people involved in or affected by the criminal justice system, helping them reintegrate into the community. A stable home environment is a critical part of that process and we are glad to play a small role in supporting the people they serve.
Kilam Properties
Kilam Properties is one of Atlantic Canada's largest residential landlords, managing apartment communities across Halifax and Nova Scotia. We work with Kilam to help their residents access quality mattresses and furniture for their homes.
Metro Community Housing Association
Metro Community Housing Association provides affordable housing and support services to residents across Halifax. We have worked with their team to help clients access quality mattresses within their budget, making sure the people they support have a proper place to sleep. Knowing that someone like Linda is loving her new mattress is exactly the kind of outcome that makes this work meaningful.
Preston Area Family Resource Center
The Preston Area Family Resource Center serves families across the Preston area with programs and support that strengthen their community. We have had the honour of contributing to their work including helping furnish a home for a family in need. Hearing that we made a meaningful difference for a family during a difficult time is exactly why we do what we do.
Friends of Clayton Park
Friends of Clayton Park is a community organization serving the Clayton Park neighbourhood in Halifax. We have been happy to contribute to their work with a donation in support of their community programs.
Ummah Masjid and Community Centre
Ummah Masjid and Community Centre is one of Halifax's most active Islamic community organizations, serving thousands of community members through religious services, education, youth programs, refugee sponsorship support, and family services. We have supported Ummah Masjid through donations and are proud to contribute in whatever way we can to the important work they do for the Halifax Muslim community and beyond.
Centre for Islamic Development
The Centre for Islamic Development is a multi-faceted community organization and mosque located on Robie Street in Halifax. CID serves the Halifax Muslim community through religious programs, education, and community development. They also operate Ihsan Academy, a registered private school. We have supported CID and are glad to be connected with an organization that invests so deeply in the growth and wellbeing of Halifax families.
